Carl A. Nelson & Company began construction of YMCA of Washington County's in 2023, completing the project late in 2024 and wrapping up more than 11 years spent supporting development, fundraising and construction of the new YMCA facility in Washington, Iowa.
Construction of Phase 1, the new fitness and community center, began in 2018 and opened in 2020.
The 15,000 SF aquatic center addition features a six-lane competition pool with a depth of 10 feet and lane length of 75-feet, 3/4 inches (making it suitable for hosting high school swim meets); a family recreation pool with zero-depth entry; an 11-person spa; and three saunas.
The entire project was delivered design-build, with CANCO self-performing portions of the construction and leading the efforts of the design team and subcontractors.
