Carl A. Nelson & Company built The FunCity TURF, an air-supported indoor athletic facility for interscholastic and tournament sports activities, using drawings and specifications prepared by our project team as an alternative to a previously planned development option.

The FunCity Turf can is suitable for any sport played on a turf grass surface, and is sized to accommodate:

  • 1 full soccer field, 2 cross fields, 4 fields of 8 fields, depending on the age or number of players. All field configurations comply with U.S. Soccer Foundation guidelines for hosting sanctioned soccer events.
  • 2 softball fields, or 1 high school regulation-sized field.

The facility also includes two, 72-foot long retractable batting cages. Use of turf overlays would allow the facility to be used for court or mat sports events.

Dome installations can be sized to meet Owners' needs -- including football.

The Owners were pleased with the leadership demonstrated by Carl A. Nelson & Company in recommending an alternative building type and location. In this testimonial video, Greater Burlington Area Sports Facilities, and Southeastern Community College President Michael Ash discusses the project, and the role CANCO played in bringing it to a successful completion.
