Carl A. Nelson & Company was the successful contractor selected to lead the design-build team for the Rinker Materials Hydro Conduit expansion in Buffalo, Iowa. Rinker Hydro Conduit manufactures precast concrete pipe at this facility.
The 16,000 SF VP Buildings manufacturing addition included a 20 ton bridge crane, a large kiln system to cure the concrete, and a concrete pit to accommodate the installation of their Pipe Plus machine. Construction of the pit was a challenge due to it’s complicated configuration and steel embedment layout.
The project also included 4.5 acres of site clearing and grading, renovation of their batch plant which involved the removal of the old mixer and installation of the new one, the addition of a fly ash silo, and a new steam boiler building.
