Title change reflects goals for Nelson Plant Services

Now as manager, the longtime superintendent of Carl A. Nelson & Company's industrial maintenance division sees expanded role in growing the business.
Although his day-to-day duties haven't changed a great deal, a new title — manager — better reflects the full scope of James Maletta's role in leading Carl A. Nelson & Company's industrial maintenance division, Nelson Plant Services (NPS).
"He engages clients, prepares and submits estimates and proposals, performs project manager duties, supervises and manages the work directly on-site, and executes the final finishing touches of projects," said Jamie Stanley, CANCO Vice President of Operations who oversees the work of NPS, in announcing the change. "James focuses on the clients’ needs with his do-what-it-takes mentality."
Maletta, who is one of 26 employee-owners of Carl A. Nelson & Company (CANCO), leads a skilled crew that successfully executes industrial manufacturing and plant maintenance projects from start to finish under the auspices of NPS.
After learning about construction around home and the family business from his father, and working for a pre-cast concrete company, Maletta joined CANCO first in 1993 as a laborer. He departed briefly in 2000, but returned to the company in late 2001. NPS was launched in 2002, and Maletta has been a part of it full-time since then. He was promoted to superintendent in 2012.
Looking to the future, Maletta said his goal is to help grow NPS beyond its current client-base and primarily southeast Iowa footprint. NPS specializes in industrial plant maintenance, and construction inside operating industrial facilities. Services include new construction, renovations and additions in production, warehouse and office facilities, as well as equipment installation.
